Praying for their Feet…

Beginning of Sept 024This week, in Praying God’s Word, I am praying for Quinn and Nash’s precious little feet!
I feel such a pull at my heart as I focus on the sweet thought of my boys learning to
walk in the Truth. I pray that their love for Him will be so true that NOTHING will ever cause them to stray from Him or His Word. I pray that their faith is solid and that they are always giving the privilege of walking with friends that love Jesus Christ as much as they do. (Because we all know how much easier it is when you have accountability!) And, I pray that they always have hope in the fact that Jesus loves them unconditionally and is always walking right beside them.

Beginning of Sept 026

Only be very careful to observe the commandment and the law which Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, to love the LORD your God and walk in all His ways and keep His commandments and hold fast to Him and serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul. Joshua 22:5 Beginning of Sept 025

On another note, I may need to start praying for my sweet Baby Love to WALK! He turned 14 months old yesterday and seems to have VERY little desire to get movin’ on his feet. Since he’s such a good crawler and climber, I think he sees little need to actually walk! He’s taken one step here, two steps there and three steps ONE time…but, walking on his knees or crawling around seems to suit him just fine. I guess I won’t start panicking yet, but it is quite crazy to me! Oh well…we’ll keep practicing!

Week 9 Snippet: {February 28-March 6}
Topic: My boys’ friends

Scripture: One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. Proverbs 18:24

What God taught me:
This is a topic that I feel SO very strongly about. If my boys have real and reliable friends that love Jesus, it will make their walk so much easier. Thankfully, Quinn is friends with boys that I KNOW are being brought up in a home that loves Jesus. I just pray that both of my boys always find & keep friends easily…and that those friends help them STAND UP for what they believe in.

Up now: Week 10: {March 7 – March 13}
Topic: Me…for rest

Scripture:
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Matthew 11:28

Praying God’s Word: Week 9

praying

Week 8 Snippet: {February 21-27}
Topic: Our Marriage

Scriptures:
Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. Ephesians 5:21

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.  1 Corinthians 13:4-8

What God taught me:
That this isn’t easy. All week, there seemed to be things that made submitting difficult. But, thankfully, when I’d get like I sometimes get, God would bring these amazing verses to my heart. He was constantly reminding me at how I glorify not only my husband, but HIM, when I submit…and I also glorify Him when I’m protecting, trusting, keeping no record of wrongs, not easily getting angry, not being rude, and thinking about him over myself.

Week 6/7 Snippet: {February 7-20}
Topic: My children…to know Jesus Christ
Scripture: I could have no greater joy than to hear that my children are following the truth.
3 John 1:4

What God showed me:
Over these past two weeks, Quinn did and said all kinds of things that reminded me that he’s not too young for the Spirit to move in his little life.

*While driving in the car, he said, “I think Jesus is driving in his car today.” When I reminded him that Jesus was in heaven, he said, “But he comes here sometimes. When I’m scared he comes here…but I don’t believe it…because I can’t see him!”

Then, I proceeded to explain faith to him and how we have to believe even though he can’t see. Then he said, “But I can see God. He’s not a man. He’s everywhere. I see him in those trees and in the grass and in those clouds and in the car.”

My heart was full at his start of understanding the Trinity. Blew my mind.

*At church, while hearing a prayer about missions and praying for the unreached, Quinn looked at me and said, “I didn’t know that people didn’t know Jesus.” I pray his heart now understands how important it is for us to pray for them.

*When Quinn prays, he says, “God” throughout his prayers. Last night it was, “Please skip all of the bad dreams, God, and don’t skip the good ones. I want to dream about superheroes and Christmas morning with lots of snow.”

*And, my favorite…after Nash caught Quinn’s sinus infection in his eyes, Q prayed for his baby brother. The next morning, Nash was surprisingly better. Hardly any signs of the sickness. And, Quinn said, “He’s all better because I prayed to Jesus and he healed him!” Throughout the day and the rest of the week, Quinn kept reminding him that God made Nash better because he prayed. I loved seeing how his faith was strengthened and thanked God for healing Nash…if nothing else except for what it did for Quinn.

Even though these stories are cute, I feel that it was God’s way of showing me to continue to train him in the way he should go…because the day he makes the decision to follow Jesus will  give me a joy that I haven’t yet experienced.

prayingI’m so sorry that I’m late in posting this week. No good excuses…just other things took priority. Sadly, other things took priority over my prayer life too. So, I’m going to continue praying the same verse this week. It’s such an important one to me…and I don’t want to miss what God has to show me.

So…week 6/7 snippet coming next week.

And, for now, I’ll continue with this…

Topic: My children…to know Jesus Christ

Topic: Our Family…wearing the armor of God

Scripture:
David said to the Philistine, "You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 1 Samuel 17:45

What God showed/is showing me:
On this snow/ice filled week, God reminded me time and time again to find my joyful heart. Swords, spears and javelins came at us all week…especially in the form of sickness! Between Nash being back on breathing treatments, Quinn getting a sinus infection in his eyes and me getting mastitis again…I am DONE! I want nothing more to do with winter and sickness! But, I was reminded that, even though that the swords coming at us aren’t fun, we are SO blessed. (Seriously, I can deal with these silly little things that aren’t at all life threatening!) And, I am reminded of how blessed I am to have the Lord Almighty always fighting with me and FOR me!

If I give it to Him and speak His name, we can’t be defeated! BY ANYTHING! What an amazing Truth!

Week 4 Snippet:
Topic: Me…as a wife

Scriptures:
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.
Hebrews 10:24

It's better to live alone in the corner of an attic than with a quarrelsome wife in a lovely home.
Proverbs 21:9

What God taught me this week:
*God made me hold me tongue this week. If something started coming out of my mouth that might give Matt reason to sleep on the roof, I rethought it. Not that I stay in the habit of saying quarrelsome things, but I felt like I was more intentional to be encouraging this week. I pray that it’s something that I continue to keep in the forefront of my mind. Our house is much nicer than our attic anyway!

*This week, my heart smiled when, as I was praying for Matt, I caught myself praying ALL four scriptures that I focused on for January. I was amazed at how God used them all to apply to one specific prayer!!! It solidified to me that praying God’s Word is POWERFUL…and that He is going to do great things this year through praying a specific prayer each week. …Now I’m just praying that He will truly allow me to continue to hide his Words in my heart so that they will continue to come to mind when I need them the most.

Up Next: Week 5
Topic: Our Family…wearing the armor of God

Scriptures:
David said to the Philistine, "You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 1 Samuel 17:45

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints. Ephesians 6:10-18

Praying God’s Word: Week 4

Click here to read about Praying God’s Word with me!!! praying

Week 3 Snippet:
Topic: My Husband’s Job

Scripture:
Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us; And confirm for us the work of our hands; Yes, confirm the work of our hands. Psalm 90:17 (NASB)

May the Lord our God show us his approval and make our efforts successful. Yes, make our efforts successful. Psalm 90:17 (NLT)

What God showed me this week:
*I loved SO many versions of this scripture. I loved how in some interpretations the word “favor” was interchanged with the word “beauty!” >>> Let the BEAUTY of the Lord our God be upon us!

*Without God’s guidance (his favor), our efforts WILL NOT be successful.

*I seemed to have NO problem praying “confirm the work of Matt’s hands” over and over and OVER this week! With his recent job transition, this seemed so perfect for him and for our family! We are really believing that God is going to do BIG things in and through Matt as he works full time for Two-Five/graphics/etc.

*And, in praying this all week, God did some EXCITING things! There are some new visions for Two-Five that Matt is working on…and, there are some ways that I think God may even use me to help with some fun opportunities with Two-Five. (Etsy store…getting a line of kids’ shirts in boutiques…etc.) Things just totally fell in our laps this week (thank you, Jesus!) and we are anxious to see where they go…and how God guides us in and through them! May he make our efforts successful!

Praying God's Word: Week 3

prayingThanks for all of your comments last week. There was an overwhelming response for the “snippet,” so expect to see a post each week re-capping the previous week…and reminding you of the verse that is up next.

Honestly, I’m thankful that y’all wanted the weekly post. I think it will help me to stay committed. So, thank you!

Week 2
Topic: My Boys’ Happiness

Scriptures:
A happy heart makes the face cheerful,
but heartache crushes the spirit. Proverbs 15:13
Sarah said, "God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me." Genesis 21:6

What God showed me this week:
*I feel such a strong pull to pray for my children's happiness. I truly can think of little that is more important that them being happy. So, since I was focusing on praying for this, you can imagine my happiness when I picked up Quinn from school and his teachers said, “Is he ever NOT happy?…He is such a good example for his friends!” My heart leapt…and I thanked Jesus for answering my prayer. May my sweet boy always live such a happy life!

*I loved reading about Sarah and being reminded of the miracle that God performed through her.  And, I love the thought of God doing something so amazing that you can’t help but laugh…and that others will laugh too and be encouraged! May my boys have reasons to be in awe of God…and, in turn, have laughter and happiness in their lives.

*Sadly, the stomach bug bit Quinn at the end of this week. It was miserable. And, in the midst of it, I shared Proverbs 15:13 with him to try to get him to smile. He thought it was silly that that verse was in the Bible! … Also, I was reminded to stay happy during the most horrible moments of his sickness. (and the fear that the rest of us could catch it.) And, I caught myself saying “the joy of the Lord is my strength” {Nehemiah 8:10} many times throughout those days.

Praying God’s Word: Update/Question

prayingFirst of all, let me just say HOW EXCITED I am that so many of you have decided to join me in this 2011 journey of praying God’s Word. When I posted it, I told myself I’d be happy if I had just one friend that wanted to come along…and, through emails, comments and Facebook messages, I think there are over 30 of you!!! WOW! So amazing!

Secondly, I wanted to ask you if you want me to post weekly about our verse or if the monthly post is enough? I don’t want it to be overkill…and, if most of you are choosing your own verses, posting weekly won’t be necessary!! But, {per some of your requests} I’m happy to give a little “snippet” of what God taught me through the previous week…and remind you of the verse for the next week.

Here’s what I’d do in the “weekly posts!”…

Week 1
Topic: Our Family’s Plans

Scripture: Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails. Proverbs 19:21

What God showed me this week:
*I need to let go of MY plans. It needs to be all about Him…not what I think I need! I need more of Him and LESS of me. More of Him and LESS of my children. More of Him and LESS of my husband. More of Him and LESS of my friends and family. More of Him and LESS of my memories and my plans!!! He truly needs to be my first priority!

*There were a few areas this week where God reminded me that that I am not in control…and that HE is going to find ways to make his purpose prevail. It was freeing!

Join Me in Praying God’s Word

praying As a newlywed, I read this book and got COMPLETELY overwhelmed. I remember making lists of things that I wanted to add to my prayer list for my husband and could never get anywhere close to the bottom as I prayed for him. Now, don’t get me wrong…I think that the book is amazing and I loved the idea of praying daily for my husband in all of those areas.

But, realistically, it wasn’t happening for me.

Then, about a year ago, my friend Carrie spoke at our mom’s group about praying for your family. I got so inspired to pray (specifically…to pray Scripture) for myself and my family.

At that time, I made a list of topics and found a scripture to go with each. And, with good intentions, I began praying over one topic each week. (a new verse/topic each day is just too much for me!) As I prayed in this way, I felt God move. Even when I started a week with a topic that seemed a little “random,” by the end of the week, God was showing me so many reasons why that was the verse He had given me.

But, as good as my intentions were, I didn’t keep up with my weekly focus.

So, this year, I wanted to make it easier for myself to stay on track. I went back to the list that I made and chose about 40 topics/scriptures that I wanted to add to my 2011 list. (I didn’t chose 52, because I may want to stay on some topics longer or I may add others as the year goes on!)

And, here’s how I play on implementing this in my life…

1. At the beginning of each month, I’m going to choose 4/5 (one for each week) and write it in my planner.

2. During my prayer times (or as I’m going about my daily “stuff”), I’m going to pay special attention to the topic/scripture that I had chosen for that week.

3. At the end of the week, I’m going to journal how God spoke to me throughout the week through the specific topic & scripture.

4. I’m going to include my husband/children when it applies…and I’m going to be intentional to leave notes for Matt to let him know when I’m praying specifically for him.

I’m excited!!! And, I think that planning ahead is going to make it much easier for me to keep my mind truly focused on things above. (Colossians 3:2)

So…why am I sharing this with you!?! #1…I’m excited! #2…I’d love for you to join me!!! And, I’d love to hear how God moves in your life through constantly meditating on His Word.

Please leave a comment if you plan on trying this out for yourself…and feel free to take that little tag at the top too! It’s nothing fancy, but I like having a little “do dad” to use when I post about things! Now…on with the topics…
