Open House: Our Bedroom

I’ve seen lots of blogs where people give a little tour of their house and thought it would be fun. So, without further adieu, welcome to thePoeFam’s Open House! I’ll choose one room a week and eventually take you through all 1,989 square feet of our very first home! I hope you’ll come on in, take off your shoes (if you’d like…no pressure! ;)…we’re not neat freaks like that!) and stay awhile! …Open House ***

A man would prefer to come home to an unmade bed and a happy woman than to a neatly made bed and an angry woman. –Marlene Dietrich

I thought I’d start with our bedroom. Why? Because I feel like it always gets the end of my attention. It was the last room to be decorated (we finished when I was pregnant with Quinn) and is always the messiest room in the house. It’s a place where few people see, so I feel less need to keep it perfect. But, today, I’m vowing to change! And a few Wednesdays ago, when Matt took Q with him to church, I stayed home and CLEANED it! I mean really CLEANED…baseboards, windows, vents, behind bedside tables and more! It took about 2 1/2 hours and feels SO great now! I swear I slept better! …And, here it is…welcome…

Ourbedroom 027Oh how we LOVE our bed! We would bet money that it is the most comfortable bed in the world!!! We always ooh and ahh over it after we’ve been away from it! We bought it right before we got married and still feel like it was one of our smartest purchases! …Now, we still don’t have a headboard, but who cares…our bed is to die for!!!Ourbedroom 010Now, for a clockwise tour…This is Matt’s chest of drawers. I surprised him with it last year as an anniversary gift. Since the 5th anniversary traditional gift is “wood,” I bought this and organized all of his stuff in it while he was away at Mission Trip. …The prints to the left were bought on a trip that I took in college to Italy…the middle grouping is Quinn’s precious newborn pictures in a frame that my parents got us for our 4th anniversary…and the tin to the right is a Canton find. Ourbedroom 018As you can tell, our bedroom furniture does not match AT ALL! We have a hodge podge of things…and I’m OK with that! :) …This little table is Matt’s bedside table and was always a side table at my grandparent’s house. My mom remembers loving it when she was a little girl and I know that we will always have a special place for it! …Ourbedroom 012Here you can really see our cool back wall…it has a metallic streaking effect. Hard to explain, but we love it! …Ourbedroom 017 Here’s my bedside table…a.k.a. chest of drawers! I got it the summer after I graduated from Baylor to put in my first “grown up” room. I still love the pickled finish. …And, the top of my bedside table always has my clock, a few little keepsakes, some jewelry, a candle, and, of course, the monitor! :) …

And, see that sweet little bassinet still peeking at us from the corner? It never made it to the attic!…Ourbedroom 014Ourbedroom 026This print makes me smile. It was a purchase I made right before Matt and I got married. I wanted something sweet to hang in our bedroom in our first apartment. I found the print and loved it because it made me think of the streets of New York. So, we had it framed and hung it in the perfect spot. … Crazy enough, two of my favorite memories from our honeymoon in New York remind me of this scene! (Stay tuned to Brittneythew for the story!) …Ourbedroom 021If you’re sitting on “my side” of the bed, this is the view of the doors to our bathroom. …Ourbedroom 022Here’s our TV armoire. (really for a computer, but we use it for a TV) I protested having a TV in our bedroom for months and FINALLY gave in. Matt liked to “wind down” by watching Sports Center, and without a TV in our bedroom, he was always winding down in the living room without me. So, I’d rather have the TV if it meant having him with me. … Now, I must admit, I like falling asleep to the TV too! :) … The top of the armoire has two of our engagement pics, and the inside contains a mess of books. (must organize!) Ourbedroom 019 We have two REALLY big mirrors in our bedroom. I love them! Mom found them both at an estate sale for $30 (I think). They’re great mirrors and make our room seem bigger. And, I have a little performer that likes them as well! :) …Ourbedroom 020And, here are my favorite bedroom accessories…my guys! They can often be found wrestling or snuggling on this super comfy bed of ours! :) Ourbedroom 023                                                  And, don’t forget…Ourbedroom 011                                         Sweet dreams!
