Brittneythew Chapter Two: What's Your Area Code?

...So, we tanned that evening and I went on about my normal Baylor girl life...student teaching, Chi O meetings, recovering from "Divas Live" Sing Act, Formals, Wedding Stuff galore for my Big Sis, dinners at Ninfa's...you know, the norm! I was also kind of hanging out with this guy (insert sarcasm here) who just happened to be the lead singer of the COOLEST band at Baylor. And, in all honesty, he spoiled me with lots of nice dinners and expensive gifts. (Rebound from a previous relationship possibly!?!?) ... Anyway, after the March 12th do-rag vs. dressy outfit meeting, apparently Matt had called Meredith to ask her if I was seeing anyone. She proceeded to tell him that I was kind of dating this guy (the "super cool" band guy, remember?) and he dropped the subject.

As time went on, the band guy and I went our separate ways, a trip to College Station to see an ex-boyfriend was less than exciting, and Matt Poe was coming back to Baylor to visit Truett Seminary again. So, on April 4th, 2002 (a little over 3 weeks since our first meeting), Matt called Meredith again, let her know he was coming back in town, and asked about me once more. When Meredith informed him that my "relationship" was over, he asked her to ask me to come and hang out that night.

When she called, I can remember being a little taken aback. She then told me that he had asked about me before as well. My heart was a little excited, for sure! So, that night, I headed on over to the same apartment to hang out with the "famous" Matt Poe.

I remember it being fun! His roommate at the time, Jared Wood, came with him and Cory Butler (a friend from HSU that was already attending Truett) was there as well. I remember some silly details from the evening...I remember Jared trying on some of Meredith's clothes for some reason and I remember laughing.

But the most important details involve my interaction with Matt Poe. He and I were both sitting on the floor in Meredith's room and found a Legg's Egg on her dresser. (I'm assuming that it had once contained her "tan" pantyhose that she had worn in the previously mentioned "Diva's Live!" Somehow, in Matt's flirty attempts with me, we made up a game of throwing the egg into the cinder block that was elevating Meredith's bed. We tried and tried to get it to stay inside the bottom space. I can't remember if either of us made it, but I remember it being ridiculously silly but so much fun! He was easy to interact with and he made me laugh!

After more of the above, it was getting time for me to leave (or maybe for them to leave...don't quite remember), and Matt noticed that I was holding my cell phone. It was soon after that he said, "Hey, do you have an Abilene number?" I smiled and said yes...kind of hoping that no one else had heard the cheesy attempt to get my phone number...I mean, seriously, with a cell phone it doesn't matter what area code you have! Anyway, I gave him "the digits" and wondered when he would call. I hoped sooner than later...

When I got back to the apartment, I remember telling Lair and Sharee ALL about my evening. And, that night when I wrote in my journal, here's what I said...

Thursday, April 4, 2002-
What in the world, Lord...I have a crush on a boy! Tonight I hung out at Meredith's with Matt Poe and I think he's great. He's absolutely hysterical and his love for the Lord is so obvious. Maybe he's the one!? What if he is!? Ha! He did get my number though. Please just be with me in this, Lord. I just want your will for my life. ...

Stay tuned for...

This is so fun that you're recording all this! One day, the memories won't be as clear as they are now, and you'll be glad you documented this. So cute!
