“One's home is like a delicious piece of pie you order in a restaurant on a country road one cozy evening - the best piece of pie you have ever eaten in your life - and can never find again. After you leave home, you may find yourself feeling homesick, even if you have a new home that has nicer wallpaper and a more efficient dishwasher than the home in which you grew up.”
~Lemony Snicket
I love going home. I love Abilene. And, I’m so thankful that I’ve gotten to go with my boys twice this summer. Thankfully, they share my love for my sweet hometown. And, in such a “boring” town, we seem to always be extra busy…doing all of the unique things Abilene has to offer.
This time, we got to jump on Slickpaw’s newly remodeled trampoline. He ordered a new tarp and painted the springs and frame of HIS childhood trampoline! Slickpaw worked hard to get it ready for them and the boys had a BLAST!!!
We took an evening trip to the fun Abilene Zoo. This time, Slickpaw’s Corvette Club was all there…parked on the main street of the Zoo! The giraffes didn’t know what to think of the noise!
We went to the NCCIL to see the amazing Walter Wick exhibit! (author of all of the I Spy and Can You See What I See? books) I never knew how much time and intricacy went into his work…so fun to appreciate it in a whole new way now! And, my boys LOVED it! They are so proud of the autographed books we purchased and have a new appreciation for them too! Mammer loves when they love stuff like this!
We checked out all of the cute, new Dr. Seuss sculptures. Q and Mammer had to pose by their beloved Lorax!
We dined on Snowcones from multiple places in Abilene…
We met friends at the new splash park…
We went to Lowe’s to build our super cool Monsters U boxes…
And, I got to sleep in MY room…in MY bed! It’s always a great feeling…strange how it feels and smells and sounds the same as it always did!
Lastly, on our trip back from Glorieta, we spent the night to break up the trip! During a quick trip to a few stores, we ran into Bob & Larry at Lifeway! Not only did the boys get to meet them, but they both won a Veggie Tales DVD! Such a fun blessing for our drive back home later that day!
We love Abilene…and, we’re so thankful that Mammer and Slickpaw always welcome us with open arms and hope we’d always stay one more night! It’s so nice to go to a place with no laundry, no dishes and help with bath time…and play time…and potty time.
