Marriage. {According to Quinn}

IMG_1739{pic taken while shopping for Bliss at IKEA}

Nash: Bubba, one day you’re gunna get married.
Quinn: Well, so are you.
Nash: I’m just gonna marry Bliss.
Quinn: {exasperated} You’re not allowed to marry your sister.
Nash: Then, I’m just gunna marry YOU!
Quinn: {even MORE exasperated} Boys can’t marry boys…it’s against the LAW!
Mommy: {thinking…} We definitely believe that girls are supposed to marry
boys because that’s what the Bible says we are supposed to do.
Quinn: Well, then, it’s against God’s Law.

Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they
shall become one flesh. Genesis 2:24

May they always have the confidence to stand on the Word of God!…especially when it’s hard to do!

I found your blog through a friend and began reading it because of the fun activities you did with your little boy before he was in school. I continued to read because I thought your family was adorable. I am bummed to see this post tonight, and will no longer be reading your blog. It would be refreshing to see a Christian with more open mindedness and acceptance of those who are different from you. Best wishes to you and your growing family.

I also began reading your blog for your genius ideas to teach and keep children entertained. You throw a party like nobodies business and I have loved seeing what you put together for your boys. I am just stunned by this post. I hesitated to comment but it has turned up enough feelings inside my own heart that I only felt it was right to share how this post made me feel. I am not gay. I am not a perfect mother. I am not a perfect wife, or a perfect friend. I do not attend church as often as I should. Nor do I consider myself an activist of any kind. I'm typing this feeling so ashamed that I live in a world where a person believes that you can stand with God and encourage your children to see any person differently. Perhaps this is what is wrong with this world that we live in.

Hi there,
First of all, I wish we were having this conversation over a cup of coffee instead of through the blog-o-sphere! But, I want you to know that my intention of this post was to share a sweet story between my boys about them wanting to marry their siblings and not to push an agenda. I’m so sorry if it made you feel that I was being judgmental in any way. Also, please know that this is a conversation that my husband and I have frequently and we do feel that it is our complete calling to LOVE EVERYONE and accept them even if we don’t agree with their choices. There is NO part of us that feels that we’re perfect (or ever will be) or that we have everything figured out. As we do our best to walk daily with Jesus Christ and seek Him, based on what Jesus says in the Bible (when he refers to Genesis 2:24 in Mark 10:7), we believe that marriage is intended for a man and a woman. With this topic (and thousands of others), we are doing all that we can to raise our children to love God and love others. If you need to stop reading my blog, I’d be disappointed, but understand. I appreciate you responding in such a kind way and for being faithful to love our family from afar for so long.

The comments above make me sad. I met Brittney in college and have known her husband and his family since we were kids. His Dad was my pastor and actually baptized me when I was 9 years old. I only give that background information to say that I don't think there is a mean spirited bone in any of them. It no surprise that the Poe fam are Christians and because they are, they believe the Bible to be the true word of God. Brittney quoted those verses above and it's the job of each individual person to wrestle with God over what they mean. I don't believe she was passing any kind of judgement when she made this post. From what I've seen, I believe the Poe fam truly lives out what is stated in Mark 12:31 no matter what anyones sexual orientation, race, religious background, etc is.

I am nobody important and I am fully aware that my opinion holds very little value. With that said I wanted to comment and commend you, Brittney, for standing up for what is right. Your response was quite gracious. The gay agenda these days is a large, influential one and, as you can see, even sharing your private thoughts on a personal blog will bring out the pro-homosexual crowd. First, kudos to you for teaching your children the truth of God's Word. Regardless of how badly the world may want homosexuality to become "acceptable", there is absoultely no denything that God says it's wicked and sinful. Second, kudos to you for not back-tracking in the face of those who attempt to guilt-trip you into going against God's truth. I pray for you and your family and that you would continue to glorify Him with your lives. Blessings, Andrew Silva
P.S. We went to high school together and I wasn't a Christian then, but thanks be to God, I am now.
