Milk does a body good…

063Nash had his first trip to the doctor at only 4 days old. They just wanted to check out his weight and jaundice levels. Thankfully, our little chunky monkey was up from 8 lbs. 1 oz. (when we left the hospital only 2 days before) to 8 lbs. 5 oz!!! WOOO HOOO! Due to my insane milk supply, this little guy is growing, growing, growing! Sadly, my story with Quinn was not the same. He wasn’t gaining quick enough and he was SUPER jaundiced. It was horrible on a new mommy to have to go to the doc so many times to get his heel pricked…and to get coached and coached again on nursing! But, this time, I looked like Dolly Parton on his second day of life…and I’m thankful…but, Lord HAVE MERCY! Let’s hope things get a little less “full” soon! At least it makes for a happy baby! 068 And, speaking of milk…the other evening, Quinn requested to hold his baby brother! So, he dragged the boppy from our room and got settled on the chair. When we placed Nash in his arms, he did good for a while, but it was time to eat…so he quickly got a little grumpy. I told Quinn that it was time for Nash’s supper, but he didn’t seem to mind holding him through the cries.

So, I asked Quinn…
”Why do you think Nash is crying?”
He said, “I think he’s hungry for his milk!”
So, I responded with, “I think you’re right. Maybe Mommy should go and feed him.”
And, Q said, “No, it’s ok, I have milk right here!” (while pulling up his shirt and pointing to his very own ‘milk’)

Thankfully, I had my camera in hand…and captured the hilariously precious moment. Obviously, we told Quinn that only Mommies made milk! :)

Here’s the event in pictures…

First, it was sweet…

But, quickly, things turned south…079 But, don’t worry…Big Brother will fix it…

Oh my goodness. Quinn is so funny!
I wanted to mention something about abundant milk supply in case you find yourself facing it later on down the line.....I know a lot of lactation consultants tell you to nurse for 15 min on each side (which is great in the beginning to get your milk to come in), but sometimes when you have a lot of milk, it takes longer than 15 min for baby to drink all of the foremilk and get to the hindmilk. If they only get foremilk from one breast, and then you switch them to the other breast and they only get foremilk there too.....they can have a milk imbalance which leads to a lot of fussiness (it's like eating lettuce and never getting to the meat and potatoes), gas, green poopies, spitting up, etc. I only bring it up because it is something that I faced with Asher in the beginning and I had no idea what the problem was until later. To fix it, I would nurse him on one side for each feeding. My milk FINALLY leveled out at around 4 months but I still squirt everywhere and soak shirts in public. So embarrassing.
If you already knew all of that, ignore me. Just thought I'd help. :)

Where did you get the baby brother shirt? My daughter-in-law, Erin (from blog Life Abundant) is having Brady's little brother in a couple of months and I would love to have a shirt like that. Thanks....and I love your journaling of all the fun family time

Awww! He's just SO precious!!! And I think that must be a good problem to have...we had the opposite and HK didn't gain at all for 6 weeks. It was HORRIBLE! So be thankful for those "dolly's" ;). Ha!
