Our Preciously Rare Playgroup

Playgroup Mommies

I get asked all of the time how our playgroup came about. People wonder how 8 girls were able to find one another when we are all so similar and all have boys that are just a few months apart. …My first response is…I know! Isn’t it crazy!? How did we get so lucky? … But, when I sit back and really think about it, it isn’t luck at all! I feel that God totally had His hand in placing all of us together so that we could raise our boys beside one another. I feel that these girls have allowed me to be honest, to share triumphs and struggles of motherhood, and to laugh. And, even though I sense MANY fun playdates in the future, regardless of where life takes us as our years pass by, I know that we 8 will always have a VERY special bond! I know that I can be guaranteed 8 sweet Christmas cards from now until always…as well as looking forward to graduation announcements and wedding initiations in the distant future. I don’t think it matters where we all end up…we’ll for always love one another dearly and pray that one day our boys realize just how BLESSED they are to have each other as well!

But, here’s how we all came about…First, a little diagram…

Playgroup Kara (Tanner’s Mommy), Meredith (Reid’s Mommy) and I were all teaching friends. When we all bonded during our pregnancy at school, we decided that we MUST start a playgroup…So, in May of 2007, when Q and Reid were less than 2 months old, we had our first one!…

{sorry, the pic is blurry…}Play_group_004 Play_group_001It was there, with two sleeping newborns, and a baby on the way, we decided to make playgroups a bi-monthly thing. And, we decided that we would each invite one friend! I chose Alli (Chapman’s Mommy), my sweet Baylor Chi-O friend and post-graduation roommate…Kara chose Dena (Hudson’s Mommy), her dear friend from high school…and Meredith chose Amy (Porter’s Mommy), her sweet & fun neighborhood friend….

Thankfully, they all accepted the invitation, and the fun really began…

Here are Porter & Chapman before they were born…tanner,_bath_time,_daddy,_etc__064 And, this was a playgroup at Chapman’s with tiny Tanner…and Chapman wasn’t born yet…but we played with his toys anyway…Picture1This sweet playgroup in September of 2007 was too much fun… playgroup_and_sitting_up_027Copy_of_playgroup_and_sitting_up_055And, this was the FIRST one of all SIX boys…Nov_074May of 2008…a little baby switch-a-roo…   playgroup_at_Alli's_011 playgroup_at_Alli's_013And, Easter of 2008, right after Quinn’s 1st birthday…all 6 boys, once again… Playgroup_boys playgroup_with_mommies

It was in July of 2008 where a blog friend became a real-life friend for Kara, Meredith and I. We had loved seeing precious Landon & Cara on her blog, and met her during the Summer. In the Fall, she started coming to our playgroup and fit right in. … Soon after, Meredith’s high school friend, Annie, started coming to playgroup too! She brought her precious little man, Sutton, the baby of the group. … We loved growing from six to eight (or should I say 12 to 16) and having two more friends for our boys!

I think that this is the ONLY picture of all of us…December 2008…PlaygroupChristmasParty_024 PlaygroupChristmasParty_016 The original three in February of 2009…SafetyTown,29thbday_and_first_half_of_heart_day_019And, the latest big group shot in March of 2009…missing Porter… easterboys2-d So, there you go…the history and a little snap shot of our super rare and precious little group! …Stay tuned for a new group picture of ALL of us coming VERY soon!!!!

I know you'll have a lifetime of memories with this playgroup. Our first playgroup (we all met in childbirth class, and our kiddos are now 5) is still precious to us, even though we live so far from them.

I found Cara's page through a friend of mine somehow and I just LOVE your lil playgroup :) I have no kids, but I just love seeing all the sweet ideas you have for these things. And it truly is a blessing for you all to have each other. Not only are they all so close in age, but ALL boys?! Wow. What a special little group. God Bless.

So cute! (found your site through Cara's and I found hers from Kelly's Korner) That is so fun to have such a neat playgroup! I can't believe you all have BOYS! What will happen if someone has a girl? Will they get kicked out? lol. :)

BGP - great job on capturing a "walk down playgroup memory lane" - I should just link to yours instead of trying to write one on my own!!! LOVED looking back at all the pictures - can't believe it has been over 2 years!!! Think we can recreate the laying down picture with our active toddlers??? ;) Maybe with our 2nd round of kiddos!!!

BRIT! I love it so much. I have been wanting to write a post just like this forever and never took the time. It is heart wrenching to see our big toddlers when they were so little. It seems like yesterday! I couldn't agree more. Only GOD could have brought us together! Love you!

Hey Britney! would you by chance have any stories on CD to recommend? I feel like a super long time ago, you mentioned that Q liked to listen to some, and I would love names. I think that Jagger is at the age where he would like to put a cd on his room, and listen as he plays!

Thanks!
