911: Part Deux

In September of 2007, while being the mother of a precious 6 month old, I called 9-1-1 for the first time...and, last night, I got to add another 9-1-1 call to my list! ... At 2 AM, our fire alarm started going NUTS!!! All of them were going off....so Matt and I jumped (well, I jumped, Matt had to go at it a little slower due to the still-yet-to-be-determined injury) out of bed to see what was going on...thankful to not see any smoke. After climbing on a chair, and after Matt's parents (who are in town this week) inspected it as well, there was NO way to get them to stop! ... and, it seemed to be the carbon monoxide detector instead of the fire alarm that was making all of the racket. ... So, I called 9-1-1, explained the situation, and got my DEAD WEIGHT ASLEEP (are you kidding me!?!?) baby out of his bed! We quickly stepped outside, got in Matt's dad's car, and waited! Within minutes, the fire truck came down our street...no sirens, but crazy bright lights! Q woke up to the lights and got super excited to see the fire truck coming our way! When they arrived, 4 somewhat sleepy firemen stepped out and went in our house to inspect it all! ... After 20 minutes or so of them inside, and an amazing time of looking at the cool fire truck for Q, they figured out that some water had leaked into our smoke alarm and caused it to short. We were so glad that it was that and not carbon monoxide!!! ... So, the super cool firemen showed the firetruck to Quinn, and even tried to get him to sit in the driver's seat...but it was a NO go for Q! Can you blame him? It's 2:45 in the morning!!! ...So, we waved goodbye, came inside, and put Quinn back to bed! He was sleepy and had no problems drifting back to sleep...I'm sure thinking that he had just had a crazy cool dream! ...

Here's to hoping that our weekend goes better than our week! How much more craziness can we take!?!?! :)

Oh I hate to say that I can relate friend. When Charlie was like 2 months old and Ty was 16 months all of our alarms went off in the middle of the night--my husband was on a trip--I have never been more scared in my life, not just that our house was on fire and we'd be hurt but that I had to figure out what in the world to do with the kids during the waiting process. It was a nightmare!! I am so sorry this happened to someone else!! Ours was almost the same thing...one of the smoke detectors was faulty and instead of beeping at us to take it down it went off and brought the whole house down with it. It was probably the hardest night of my life thus far as a mom...glad it's over for you!!

oh and at the time I didn't have Jody and Brandon's home # and I got so mad at the firemen, (God love them,) because they wouldn't disconnect the faulty alarm. Safety reasons...anyway I knew if I could get Brandon to my house he'd fix it for me but I ended up climbing the ladder and taking them all down until the next day when my husband could fix them!
